Alternatives to ClickUp

Everything, and then a bill for the rest.

ClickUp's pitch is that it does everything. The reason people search for a way out is usually that the parts they wanted turned out to be a trial, a tier or a per-user add-on on top of the seat they already bought.

On every planNo add-ons, no per-product tier

What actually pushes people off ClickUp.

Not the features. The way the features are sold.

01

AI is a separate per-user add-on

Brain is priced per user on top of the seat, so the AI that carried the demo is a second per-head subscription rather than something your plan includes. Whatever you think of AI in a project tool, buying the same headcount twice is the moment a lot of teams start pricing the market again.

02

Automation executions are counted

Each tier carries a monthly execution allowance, and the allowance is the thing that runs out rather than the feature that fails. An automation that saves five minutes a hundred times a month is exactly the one that eats the budget, which means the automations worth having are the ones that push you up a tier.

03

The good parts are gated or on trial

Dashboards and timelines are trials below the business tier, and custom field management, permission granularity and guest controls all move with the plan. The product feels complete in evaluation and reveals its edges in month two, which is a worse order than being told up front.

What a Spodus seat is instead.

Narrower on purpose, and nothing sold on top of the seat.

Nothing stacked on the seat

There is no add-on to buy in Spodus, for AI or anything else. To be plain about it: there is no AI in Spodus at all, nothing is billed per credit, and if that is the capability you were paying ClickUp for then this is a downgrade rather than a saving. Everything else is in every plan.

Dashboards and automations on every plan

Dashboards are not a trial and automations are not a tier. Both are in every plan, along with custom fields, unlimited custom objects, the customer portal, public forms, and table, board and calendar views. What a higher plan adds is more storage, more workspaces, a larger automation allowance and the admin controls a bigger company needs, never a product.

Five business products, not one enormous one

The pipeline, the invoice, the ticket queue, the employee record and the team chat are separate finished products that share one set of records. Growth and Business are both priced per seat, billed annually, with no seat minimum under either.

What you would be giving up.

ClickUp does far more inside project management than Spodus does, and some of it we will never do. Docs and whiteboards, sprint tooling, goals, the depth of its view library, an app marketplace: none of that is here. Time is the one to read carefully rather than to score. Spodus does track it, with a timer, a weekly timesheet against tasks and a rate and billable flag on each one, but ClickUp's is the deeper tool and no hour here becomes an invoice line. What Spodus has that ClickUp does not is the other half of a business: a real pipeline, invoices with tax rates and recurring schedules, a ticket queue with SLAs and a portal, and people records. The trade is depth in project execution for breadth across the company.

Side by side.

ClickUp's pricing structure above was read from their own pricing page on 28 August 2026; check it for current rates, which we deliberately do not quote here. Spodus is priced per seat on both Growth and Business, billed annually, with no seat minimum. Customers in the support portal are free.

Lists become objects, tasks become records.

A ClickUp list exports to CSV and lands as a Spodus custom object with your custom fields mapped across and statuses preserved. Subtasks come over as one level of hierarchy. What does not transfer: docs, whiteboards, dashboards, automation recipes and anything tracked as time. If the docs matter, keep them where they are and link to them, because Spodus has a support knowledge base rather than a document product.

Questions, answered.

Does Spodus have AI?
No, none. There is no assistant, no generated content and no AI credits to buy, which is why there is no AI add-on on the seat either. If AI is what you were paying ClickUp extra for, moving here loses it outright.
Does Spodus track time?
Yes, on every plan: a running timer, a weekly timesheet against your tasks, and an estimate, an hourly rate and a billable flag on each task, with the week's billable hours and amount totalled for you. What it does not do is turn those hours into an invoice line or report utilisation and profitability across months, and ClickUp's time tooling goes further. If your billing runs off tracked hours, that is the gap to check before you move.
Is Spodus simpler than ClickUp?
Narrower, which usually reads as simpler. Five defined products with defined jobs rather than one surface that can be shaped into anything. Teams who wanted the shapelessness will miss it; teams who lost a month to configuring it usually do not.
Can we import our tasks?
Yes. Export lists to CSV and import them onto Spodus objects, mapping custom fields and statuses as you go. Assignees match on email address.
