Alternatives to Front

Read this before you consider us.

Front is a shared email inbox. Spodus is not, and the Inbox in Spodus is internal team chat rather than shared email. If a shared inbox is the job, this page will tell you to stay, and then tell you when it would not.

What actually pushes people off Front.

Three mechanics, and the first one is the one people notice.

01

Plans have seat ceilings

Starter stops at ten seats and Professional at fifty. That is not a soft limit you grow through, it is a wall: the eleventh hire is a plan change rather than a seat. A price rise you chose is one thing, a price rise triggered by hiring somebody is another, and it arrives at the worst possible moment.

02

Rules are counted

Automation rules come as a number per tier, ten on Starter and twenty on Professional. Rules are how a shared inbox stops being a pile of email, so the thing that makes the product work is the thing that is rationed, and running out means picking which routing to delete.

03

The AI tools sit on top of the seat

Copilot, QA and CSAT are sold per seat on top of the plan, and the conversational automation is metered per conversation. So the quoted seat rate is a floor rather than a price, and the version of Front that the demo showed you is a different number from the one on the pricing page.

What Spodus is, plainly.

Not a shared email inbox. A support desk and four other products around it.

A ticket queue, not an inbox

Customer email arrives as tickets with owners, statuses, SLAs and a knowledge base behind them, and customers can open and track a ticket through a portal without ever holding an account. That is a different way of working from a shared mailbox, and for some teams it is better and for some it is worse.

Nothing sold on top of the seat

There is no add-on in Spodus, for AI or anything else, because there is no AI in Spodus at all. Automations, dashboards, custom fields and the portal are on every plan, and rules are not counted out per tier. Growth is priced per seat, billed annually, with no seat ceiling on the plan.

Four more products on the same customer

The person on the ticket is the same record that carries the deal, the invoice and the balance, so an agent answering a question can see what the customer bought and what they owe. Connecting a Gmail or Outlook mailbox over IMAP puts the mail thread on that record too.

What you would be giving up.

For Front's actual job, we are not a replacement, and the Inbox product in Spodus will not fill the gap: it is internal team chat, not shared email. Front does collaborative email properly, with drafts several people can work on, comments beside the thread, assignment and routing across shared addresses, omnichannel conversations, and analytics on how a team handles them. Spodus has none of that. If your team lives in a shared mailbox and answers customers by writing email together, staying on Front is the right call. Spodus is worth a look only if what you actually needed was a ticket queue with SLAs and a portal, and a shared inbox was the closest thing you could find.

Front's pricing structure above was read from their own pricing page on 28 August 2026; check it for current rates, which we deliberately do not quote here. Spodus is priced per seat on both Growth and Business, billed annually, with no seat minimum. Customers in the support portal are free.

Only if you are changing the model.

There is no Front importer and there is no shared inbox to import into, so this is not a migration in the usual sense: it is a decision to work in a ticket queue instead of a mailbox. What does come across cleanly is contacts and companies by CSV, and connecting a Gmail or Outlook mailbox over IMAP so that mail threads attach to the customer record. If you try this, run both for a month with one support address pointed at Spodus before moving anything else.

Questions, answered.

Is the Spodus Inbox a shared email inbox?
No. Inbox in Spodus is internal team chat: channels and direct messages between your own people. It does not receive customer email and it is not a Front replacement. Customer email comes into Spodus as support tickets instead.
So can Spodus replace Front at all?
Only if the job changes. If your team wants tickets with owners, statuses, SLAs, a knowledge base and a customer portal, Spodus does that and adds a CRM, invoicing and HR around it. If your team wants to write email together, it cannot and will not.
Does Spodus connect to Gmail or Outlook?
Yes, for sync, over IMAP and SMTP with a mailbox password rather than a one-click sign-in. Mail threads attach to the contact and the deal, so the history is on the record. That is not a shared inbox, and it is not a substitute for one.
What does Spodus cost?
Growth and Business are both priced per seat, billed annually, with no seat minimum, no seat ceiling on the plan and no add-ons. We quote for your team on a call.
