Edit fields inline
Change any field on a record, in a table or on the record itself, without opening a form. Learn which keys save, move on or cancel an edit.
You can change a value wherever you see it: in a table cell, in the side panel, or on a record's full page. There's no edit form to open and no Save button to find.
Things to know
- Changes save as you make them, and each one is listed in the record's Activity.
- Some fields are filled in by Spodus, such as Created by and Last update. You can't edit them.
- If your role lets you view a board but not change it, clicking a cell only selects it.
Edit in a table
- Click a cell once.
- Text, number, money, email, link and phone cells open for typing.
- Status, select, people, date and linked-record cells open a picker.
- A checkbox cell switches on or off.
- Type or pick the new value.
While you're typing in a cell:
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enter | Saves and moves down one row |
| Tab | Saves and moves one cell right |
| Shift+Tab | Saves and moves one cell left |
| Esc, or a click elsewhere | Saves and stays put |
You can also select a cell with the arrow keys and start typing. Your first key starts the edit.
To rename a record from the table, hover over its name and click Rename (the pencil) beside it. Clicking the name itself opens the record.
Edit on a record
- Open the record in the side panel or on its full page.
- Click the value you want to change.
- Type the new value and press Enter, or pick one from the list.
Press Esc to cancel a typed change. Clicking away saves it.
- To rename the record on its full page, click Edit name (the pencil) beside the name. In the side panel, click the name.
- An empty link field shows what it's waiting for, such as Set company. Click it to pick a record.
