Direct messages and threads
Send a direct message to one teammate or a small group, reply to a message in a thread, forward a message, and edit or delete what you wrote.
A direct message is a private chat with one teammate or a small group. A thread keeps the replies to one message together, beside the conversation, so the main chat stays readable.
Things to know
- You can message anyone who is a member of your workspace.
- Press Enter to send a message. Press Shift+Enter for a new line.
- You can edit or delete only your own messages. Deleting a message also deletes its replies, and it can't be undone.
Send a direct message
- In the left rail, click Messages.
- Hover over Direct messages in the sidebar and click New direct message (the + icon).
- Search for and pick one or more people.
- Click Start chat, or Start group chat if you picked more than one person.
- Type your message and press Enter.
In a group chat, click Conversation options (the ⋮ icon), then View members to see who is in it.
Reply in a thread
- Hover over a message.
- Click Reply in thread.
- The thread opens on the right. Type your reply and press Enter.
- Click Close thread (the X) when you're done.
Under a message with replies, Spodus shows who replied and how many replies there are. Click it to open the thread.
Forward a message
- Hover over the message and click Forward.
- Search for a channel or a person.
- Click Forward.
Edit or delete your message
- Hover over your message and click More (the ⋮ icon).
- Click Edit, change the text and press Enter to save. Press Esc to cancel.
- Or click Delete, then Delete again to confirm.
Leave a conversation
- Open the direct message and click Conversation options (the ⋮ icon).
- Click Leave conversation and confirm.
The conversation and its messages stay for everyone else. You stop seeing it.
