Send for signature
Send a draft contract to your client to sign in the client portal, see when it is signed, and know what changes on the contract once they sign.
You can ask a client to sign a contract in their client portal. They read the terms, type their name, and the contract becomes active.
Before you start
- The client portal must be on. See Turn on the client portal.
- The contract must be a Draft and have its Company set.
- At least one contact at that company must have portal access. See Invite a client.
- Your role must allow sending email.
Send for signature only shows when all of these are true.
Send a contract for signature
- Open the contract.
- Click the More menu (⋯) and choose Send for signature.
The contract moves to Awaiting signature. Each contact with portal access gets an email with a link to the contract in their portal. A message says how many contacts were emailed.
What the client does
- They open the contract in the portal. It shows the terms in plain words: when it starts and ends, the fee, how it bills, and any included hours and extra-hour rate.
- They click Sign contract.
- They type their name in Your full name, tick I agree to this contract, and click Sign.
The contract also shows under Waiting on you on their portal home until they sign.
After they sign
- The contract moves to Active, and its Signed at, Signed by and Signed via fields are filled in.
- You get a notification. It goes to the contract's Account lead, else the person who made the contract, else the workspace's owners and admins.
- An active contract is billed from its start date. See Contracts and retainers.
