Doc settings
Change a doc's font, text size, page width and line spacing, choose what shows in its header, use focus mode, and protect a doc from accidental edits.
Doc settings change how a doc reads for everyone who opens it. Focus mode is just for you.
Things to know
- Settings apply to the whole doc. On a page inside a doc, you can switch between Entire doc and This page to give that page its own settings.
- If you can only view a doc, you can see its settings but not change them.
Open doc settings
Open the doc and click the Doc settings button at the top right. You can also hover over the top of the page and click Settings.
Change how the doc reads
Under Reading, pick:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Font | Default, Serif or Mono |
| Text size | Small, Default or Large |
| Page width | Default or Full width |
| Line spacing | Tight, Default or Loose |
Choose what shows in the header
Under Header, turn each of these on or off: Cover image, Page icon, Subtitle, Author, Last updated and Table of contents.
Show the table of contents
Click the Outline button at the top right of the doc. It lists the page's headings under On this page. Click a heading to jump to it.
The Outline button shows only while Table of contents is on. The list appears once the page has at least three headings.
Use focus mode
Under Focus mode, turn on one of these:
- Block fades everything except the block you're writing in.
- Page hides the rest of the app and shows only the page.
Press Esc to leave either one. In Page focus you can also click Exit focus. Focus mode is only for you. It doesn't change the doc for anyone else.
Protect a doc
Turn on Protect this doc under Protection to stop accidental edits. A protected doc is read-only for everyone, you included. Turn it off in the same place to edit again.
See word count
Stats shows the page's Words, Characters and Reading time.
