Form logic
Add rules that show or hide a question on your form based on an earlier answer, so visitors only see the questions that apply to them.
Logic rules show or hide a question depending on how a visitor answered an earlier one. For example, show Budget only when someone picks "New project".
Before you start
- Form logic needs the Starter plan or higher. On Free the Logic tab is hidden, and the public form ignores any rules.
- Add the questions first. A rule needs a question to check and a question to show or hide.
Things to know
- A rule reads as a sentence: If a question matches a condition, Then Show or Hide another question.
- The conditions are is, is not, contains, is empty and is filled. Matching ignores upper and lower case.
- A question with a Show rule stays hidden until its condition is met. If it has several Show rules, any one of them is enough.
- Hide wins over Show. If any Hide rule matches, the question is hidden.
- A hidden question is never required, and an answer to it is not saved.
- If you remove a question, rules that use it are removed too.
Add a rule
- Open the form and stay on the Build tab.
- Click an empty part of the form so no question is selected.
- In the panel on the right, click Logic.
- Click Add rule.
- Under If, pick the question to check.
- Pick the condition, then the value. For a choice question you pick from its options. For other questions you type the value.
- Under Then, pick Show or Hide, then the question it applies to.
A rule that is not finished has a red border and the note "Finish this rule or delete it." It does nothing until you complete it.
To delete a rule, click the bin icon on its card. The Logic tab shows how many rules the form has.
Test it
Click Preview at the top and fill in the form. Questions appear and disappear as you answer. Test submissions aren't saved.
